HawkMoth Farm
We are a small family farm in Anton Chico, New Mexico founded in 2007. We use agroecological and traditional acequia practices to grow food, adapted seed, beneficial habitat, foster food justice and environmental resilience. We grow perennial and annual fruits and vegetables in field and in hoop houses for our local markets and the New Mexico Grown Program, grow experimental crops to learn from, conduct informal plant breeding, and do a lot of seed saving. We use cover crops and integrate livestock for field cleaning, soil health and pest management. We raise chickens, ducks, honeybees, and also Awassi sheep for dairy, meat and wool production. We are processing wool from our sheep and exploring fiber integration on the farm and for creative endeavors.

We are Jeanette Hart-Mann and Bill Mann and we moved to Anton Chico in 2007 with our year old son. In 2007 our daughter was born on the farm. Since then our whole family has been the heart of making the farm what it is today. Over the years we have also had family, friends, volunteers, and interns contribute their labor and love too!

While this is our home by choice, we are not native to this land. We are reminded daily that this land is the unceeded territory of the Jicarilla and Mescalero Apache who lived here since time immemorial. While these people are still present today, much of their homelands were violently taken from them. This is also a land shaped by others who came later with Spanish Colonization and Mexican Revolutions, who surveyed and hand dug the acequias that give all of these lands life with mountain waters from the Pecos River. We honor and give thanks to all people past, present, and future who have and will continue to steward these lands. We also give thanks to the soil, water, seeds, plants, animals, sun, moon, and mountains for these blessings of life, food, and community.

Together we aim to grow a vibrant agroecological farm dedicated to feeding our community of people and the more-than-human while doing this with a commitment to mindfulness, care, and diversity.

The Farm
We grow a wide variety of arid-adapted annual and perennial crops, seeds, trees, and livestock.
We strive to center our farming in agroecology. Agroecology is the science and practice of wholistic, biodiverse, and sustainable agriculture grounded in ecology and social justice.

We offer many on the farm and hands-on educational opportunities through WWOOF, internships, volunteering, and work with schools and organizations.
Awassi Sheep
For Sale
We sell breeding quality lambs and proven rams and ewes. In the future we also plan to offer butchering options if you would like to buy an animal for butchering.
Our Flock
We have raised Awassi Sheep since 2021. Our original flock came from Divine Providence Dairy and since then we have been working with other Awassi breeders to diversify and improve our flock. Our bloodlines come from Karras and Elhassan genetics. We are working on developing strong tri-purpose traits in our Awassi for dairy, meat and wool.
Wool Pellets
Field trials are taking place at HawkMoth Farm using wool pellets in our crop fields as a soil amendment to increase water retention and build soil health. In 2027, we will begin processing waste wool into pellets as a service for others and purchasing waste wool from New Mexico Wool Producers to create our own wool pellet products. These will be available at local garden centers and at the Tri-County Farmers Market.
